Since mid-2022, the Peoples Democratic Party has weathered a series of internal challenges, emerging stronger each time. This resilience is a testament to the wisdom and steady leadership of Ambassador Umar Damagum, the Acting National Chairman, who has guided the party through turbulent waters with remarkable skill since assuming leadership in March 2023.
Recently, the PDP faced a contentious dispute over the National Secretary position. The Supreme Court, in a landmark ruling, affirmed Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the rightful occupant, overturning earlier judgments by the Enugu High Court and the Court of Appeal. Those lower courts had favored one Emmanuel Aniagwu, with a former youth leader positioned as the beneficiary. Beyond resolving this specific contest, the Supreme Court’s decision, as detailed in the certified true copy of the ruling, has reinforced the pillars of internal democracy, the rule of law, due process, and party supremacy within the PDP. This victory is not just for Senator Anyanwu or his supporters. The victory is for the party as a whole, including the other parties to the suit.
With this chapter now closed, the task before us is for PDP members to solidify their unity under the big umbrella and channel our collective resolve toward a successful National Convention that will appoint officers to the National Working Committee for the 2025-2029 NWC term.
In Nigeria today, the PDP remains a formidable force, and the umbrella is big enough to accommodate all who desire a progressive Nigeria. Therefore, PDP members must seize the opportunity to reclaim Nigeria in 2027 and restore power
