The hall was calm but resolute as the PDP Caretaker Committee Chairman, Alhaji Abdulrahman rose to address the gathering. Before him sat members of the FCT State Executive Council, party stakeholders, and loyal supporters who had weathered difficult moments with patience and courage.

He spoke with deep appreciation, thanking the FCT State Executive Council, stakeholders, and supporters for standing firm with the party through challenging times. Their loyalty and resilience, he noted, were the pillars that sustained the PDP and kept its structures intact.

Reaffirming his mandate, Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed assured the gathering of his total commitment to ensuring unity within the party at all levels. He stressed that cohesion, dialogue, and collective responsibility would guide the caretaker leadership as it works to strengthen the party across the FCT.

Looking ahead, he expressed confidence in the future, assuring party faithful that a united PDP would record victory in electioneering processes. As applause echoed across the hall, a renewed sense of hope and determination took hold, signaling a shared resolve to move forward together and deliver success for the party.

There is no record of such communication or position  from The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), no statement, no document either has been seen or acknowledged by the institution or even the party. 

The Nigeria Police Force and INEC have already been alerted on the incessant  spread of fake news by a certain Thomas Ibu using the name of INEC.

 *Damagum's Wisdom, Anyanwu's Challenge, and Cost of Illegality* 

In February 2025, His Excellency Ambassador Umar Damagum, Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, penned a memo to the National Working Committee clarifying the legal stance on the National Secretary position.

With wisdom and seasoned diplomatic insight, Damagum urged the NWC to exercise patience and await INEC's guidance, the body tasked with regulating political parties in Nigeria. Yet, defying Damagum's counsel, some NWC members, allegedly monetized by opponents of National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, pushed forward with unlawful actions.

After weeks of their missteps and maneuvering, the Supreme Court ruled decisively on March 21, 2025. It upheld all of Senator Anyanwu's claims, affirming his role as National Secretary and voiding the dubious 2023 and 2024 rulings of the Enugu High Court and Court of Appeal respectively. The apex court laid bare the folly of Anyanwu's adversaries and their lapdogs within the NWC.

Amid this turmoil, Senator Anyanwu remained composed, likely pondering why certain figures in privileged roles would demean their offices to target him. He might have wondered how Excellencies could stoop to act like political trolls, risking the party's foundation for personal agendas, or how those whose INEC nomination forms he endorsed could turn against him unjustly.

In this frame of mind, Anyanwu issued a bold challenge to the Governors, setting a condition for his resignation. "Show the public if I ever sought or received even a bottle of water from you, and I will step down," he declared at a Southeast PDP stakeholders' meeting on May 19, 2025. Three weeks later, not one Governor, not even Enugu's Peter Mbah, has responded.

As the saying goes, the grass suffers when elephants clash. The fallout from this Illegality is severe. The PDP has lost serving and former governors, numerous National and State Assembly members, and countless others to the All Progressives Congress, fearing for their political futures. The party, which once held four governorships in the oil-rich Southsouth zone, now clings to two, with rumors swirling that Governor Siminalayi Fubara's potential defection could reduce it to one. Whispers of further losses loom nationwide.

Worse, any national meetings, congresses, or primaries conducted without Senator Anyanwu's signed notice, as required by the PDP Constitution and Electoral Act, are legally void. This includes the Anambra State gubernatorial primary and the recent National Executive Committee meeting. Even the proposed August National Convention date lacks legal weight, as the notice of NEC meeting which adopted the Governors' proposal did not come from Senator Anyanwu. As I have noted previously, our leaders may have acted in good faith, but the party must rectify its errors.

The path forward lies in unity. Those committed to the PDP's success must align with the Acting National Chairman, National Secretary, and other dedicated stakeholders to uphold the party's constitutional processes impartially. Doing what is right will bring glory to the party, but doing otherwise attracts consequences.

What offence has the most distinguished Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu committed? He just like other national working committee (NWC) members, was elected on October 30th/31st, 2021, to serve a four (4) year term which will elapsed by December 10th, 2025.

Senator S. N. Anyanwu, with love for his people the (ndi Imo) and his drive and call to serve them, purchased the People's Democratic Party (PDP) Imo state gubernatorial form and emerged as the flag bearer of the party in April 12, 2023, for the November 11 election, after under going the necessary and due process of being nominated, screened and participated in the primary. Him loving his people & party the offence?  If their doctored fake congress guideline was the original, how come he scaled through the screening exercises without tendering any of such documents & emerge the candidate?

He proceeded on his annual leave which began from, the 18th of April, 2023 till May 24, 2023. This enabled him to concentrate on winning the Imo state gubernatorial election for our great party, with the self acclaimed leader of PDP in the South East and governor of Enugu State neither supported him financially nor supported him with his presence during his campaign, and after which, he resumed his position as national secretary. 

The Governor of Enugu State Mr. Peter Mbah, in an attempt to short change Imo state and install his kinsman and a misfit named Sunday Udeh-Okoye as national secretary of our great party, approached senator Samuel Anyanwu, on the campaign ground of the grand finale to demand for his resignation letter as a condition to support his governorship pursuit. This is after several failed attempts to coax senator Anyanwu, to get a resignation letter. 

And contrary to the false narrative created by the loyalist of both Mbah and Makinde, Anyanwu never resigned and that's why till date they couldn't produce or provide Anyanwu's resignation letter to back their propaganda and blackmail.

Now these rappers of our constitution and legality claimed that, the PDP constitution as amended in 2017, section 47 (5) requires  officers resignation before contesting election and section 48 (1) rejects officers holding dual office.

But contrary to the mischief makers claim and false narrative, the operational word in section 47 (5) is "May Resign and not Shall Resign", and in section 48 (1) Assumes & the offices to be assumed is list and being the candidate or flag bearers of PDP is not one of them because it's neither considered as an office nor mentioned on the list above.

I therefore, advise gov. Makinda and gov. Mbah, to desist from sponsoring mutiny, insubordination, subversion, blackmail and propaganda against PDP and it's national secretary and channel their resource and energy to constitutionality and legality and not unconstitutionality and illegality.

It is a fact that indeed, Senator Samuel Anyanwu is a strong believer in the youths of Nigeria both by resources and by mentorship and even by active involvement in youthful activities as he believes strongly also in giving the youths a strong sense of belonging in leadership and he has usually maintained that one way to go about it is for him as a leader to show leadership by being involved with youthful activities and to use such as avenue to interact and mentor the youths into becoming future leaders regardless of their social status in the society.

However, a close examination reveals a deeply flawed, self-serving, and ultimately ineffective attempt at legitimizing confusion and deepening internal discord under the guise of unity.

1. False Claim of Neutrality

While the release begins by claiming to speak from a place of “loyalty and duty,” it swiftly descends into partisanship. The staff overtly back a factional position—endorsing Arch Setonji Koshoedo—thereby abandoning any claim of neutrality. Their support is not based on fresh democratic processes, but rather on the decision of a few party elites and disputed legal interpretations.

2. Contradictions in Legal Interpretation

The document tries to justify its position using the March 21, 2025, Supreme Court ruling. However, it fundamentally misrepresents the verdict. If, as stated, the Supreme Court struck out earlier judgments for lack of jurisdiction, then no court ruling exists in favor of Udeh Okoye. Instead, the case reverts to the party's internal mechanisms—which are themselves disputed and politically influenced. Citing a “lack of jurisdiction” is not equivalent to “affirmation” of a faction's choice.

3. Incoherent Justification

The claim that Arch Koshoedo's acting appointment “restores confidence” and “preserves integrity” contradicts the reality of the party's chaos. Appointing an acting secretary because of internal confusion is an admission of disorder, not a solution. It shows the leadership vacuum is still unresolved, despite the effort to whitewash it with bureaucratic jargon and legal-sounding references.

4. Weaponization of Institutional Memory

The document oddly positions long-serving staff as “key stakeholders” due to their tenure, which is irrelevant to the constitutional dispute at hand. Institutional memory does not confer legitimacy to override democratic processes or party-wide consensus. This is an attempt to elevate bureaucrats above elected representatives and party members.

5. Backhanded Undermining of Senator Anyanwu

Although the document pays lip service to Senator Anyanwu’s contributions, it swiftly pivots to portraying him as an obstacle to party stability. This disingenuous approach further undermines any claim to fairness or objectivity. If he has been foundational to the party, why is there no clear process to engage him in resolving the dispute?

6. Manufactured Consensus

The list of over 80 signatories, from Directors to Junior Staff, is meant to project mass support. However, this is a bureaucratic echo chamber—not a reflection of grassroots opinion or democratic mandate. Staff signatures do not equal legitimacy in a political context. The overwhelming majority of these names have no voice in party constitutional matters.

7. Political Expediency Over Due Process

Ultimately, this is not a call for unity, but a desperate attempt to normalize factional control. By backing a stop-gap measure as a permanent fix, the release undermines the principle of internal democracy. It favors expedience over structure and persuasion over procedure.

olitical Crisis is brewing within the South-East wing of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as prominent leaders in the zone have strongly condemned Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, over what they describe as an orchestrated plot to destabilize the party and subvert constitutional authority.

In a statement released on Tuesday and signed by Chief A.U. Nwachukwu, Chairman of the South-East PDP Leaders Forum, the group accused Governor Mbah of colluding with expelled former Zonal Chairman, Chief Ali Odefa, to remove Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary—despite a Supreme Court ruling affirming Anyanwu’s position and official recognition by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“Governor Mbah is planning to destroy our party,” the statement warned, citing the governor’s alleged ultimatum that the PDP must reverse the Supreme Court’s decision or face his defection from the party.

According to the South-East PDP leaders, the governor’s desperation became more evident when he convened an unauthorized meeting of the South-East Zonal Executive Committee (ZEC), which only the National Vice Chairman (South-East) is empowered to summon under Article 27(3) of the PDP Constitution.

The controversial meeting, disguised as a mobilization exercise for the PDP in the zone, was reportedly held to coerce party stakeholders into backing the removal of Senator Anyanwu and recognizing Mr. Setonji Koshoedo, Deputy National Secretary, as Acting National Secretary—a move party leaders have described as “illegal and unconstitutional.”

“The gathering, initially framed as a mobilization meeting, was a ruse aimed at forcing through an unlawful agenda. Some of the attendees were misled, unaware of the meeting’s true purpose,” the statement noted.

The forum also raised the alarm over the involvement of Chief Odefa in the scheme, emphasizing that he was expelled from the PDP in November 2024, with the expulsion affirmed by the Federal High Court in Abakaliki. Legal opinions from the party’s National and Zonal Legal Advisers also confirmed that Odefa is no longer a party member.

The South-East PDP leaders commended the national leadership of the party for resisting attempts to manipulate the party’s structure and reaffirmed their support for Acting National Chairman Ambassador Umar Damagum, National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and the Reformation Committee led by former Senate President Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki.

They further called on party members across the region to remain vigilant and united in the face of what they termed “a clear assault on party discipline and internal democracy.”

“The PDP will not be held hostage by personal ambitions. The rule of law, party constitution, and integrity of our democratic institutions must prevail,” the statement concluded

In a move that puts ongoing internal party wranglings into clearer perspective, Senator Samuel N Anyanwu has signed the official submission of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) gubernatorial candidate for the 2025 Anambra election, confirming his position as the party’s National Secretary.

The letter, dated May 7, 2025, and addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was co-signed by Senator Anyanwu and the PDP Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum. It formally submitted Ezenwafor Jude C as the party’s candidate and Hon Okeke Francis Chukwudi as his running mate for the November 8 governorship poll.

Despite recent reports that some PDP governors had named a new acting secretary, this submission, endorsed by both the chairman and Senator Anyanwu, signals that the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) still recognises Anyanwu as the legitimate National Secretary.

Observers say this action may be the party’s calculated attempt to avoid internal legal disputes or disqualification issues ahead of the critical Anambra election.

A pressure group in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), South West Stakeholders Forum has insisted that Senator Samuel Anyanwu is the authentic National Chairman of the party. 

The forum said its insistence was based on the recent  Supreme Court ruling on the scramble for the national scribe seat .

Alhaji Kola Ajayi, coordinator of the South West PDP Stakeholders Forum in a statement on Sunday said there is no ambiguity in the apex court ruling but blamed people with biased mind for self serving interpretation of the judgement.

The forum said it does not recognize the choice of any other person as PDP national secretary. 

The statement issued by Ajayi read "we members of the South West Stakeholders Forum as a group interested in the growth of our great party are concerned in the recent development relating to the position of the National Secretary. 

"We are convinced that there is no crisis as far as the position is concerned because Senator Samuel Anyanwu is the authentic National Secretary of the party.

Any other person is an impostor.

"The Supreme Court judgement has vindicated Senator  Anyanwu. So, we do not recognize Hon. Sunday Ude Okoye or anyone in acting capacity by the name Arc. Setonji Koshedo.

"We blame the misunderstanding on this position on the leadership of the party who are not firm enough in implementing the Supreme Court judgement".

The forum appealed to the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) to let the status quo remain by allowing Senator Anyanwu in office till the expiration of the current NWC.

"The national convention is around the corner, we are appealing to the party leadership not to aggravate the crisis within the party but allow the status quo remain while working internally to resolve differences at the national level and state chapters," said Ajayi

The forum expressed confidence that PDP will flourish after the national convention and the party will be repositioned strongly ahead of the 2027 general election

Distinguish Senator Samuel Anyanwu has built an excellent reputation and  good character in the discharge of his duties at every given time he has been privileged to serve his people and the party at large. But it appears that certain individuals within the peoples Democratic party have become addicted to misinformation, thriving on the toxic diet of deceit, forgery, and propaganda just to destroy the reputation of great man who has done no evil whatsoever. Their desperation has now reached laughable proportions, as evidenced by the latest concocted tale by Darlington Ukachukwu and his cohorts falsely accusing supporters of Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu of forging a memo.

Let it be known today that no amount of lies, no volume of fake memos, and no amount of coordinated media smear campaign can jeopardize distinguish Senator Samuel Anyanwu’s record of service, loyalty to the party, or grassroots credibility and presence. Rather what we are witnessing is a classic case of political insecurity on the part of some party leaders, where the only strategy left to them is to attempt character assassination through forged narratives and imaginary scandals.

The recent claims published against Senator Anyanwu are not only false but an insult to the intelligence of discerning Nigerians. If indeed a memo was forged, then those responsible should be investigated and exposed not conveniently pinned on Anyanwu or his supporters without a shred of evidence. Accusation is not proof, and propaganda is not fact.

The peoples Democratic party is too great a party to be reduced to a circus of forgers pointing fingers at loyal party men, while the real enemies of the party hide behind headlines and anonymous authors. It is ironic that those peddling these lies accuse others of forgery while continually forging stories to sway public opinion.

This campaign of calumny against Distinguish Senator Samuel Anyanwu must end now . These fabricators must understand that no matter how many times a lie is repeated, it will never become truth. The people are watching. The party is watching. And history has never been kind to those who traded integrity for propaganda.

If anyone must be cautioned, it should be those who think that by orchestrating media trials and spreading fake documents, they can overturn due process and the collective wisdom of party structures, their illegalities are becoming too obvious. We shall continue to beam our  eagle eyes on their activities and in no short time they will be disgraced

Because the man whom they seek his downfall is a man of grace and integrity, remember to be forewarned is to be forearmed.

Over the Easter break, Ambassador Umar Damagum, the PDP Acting National Chairman, ventured to Yobe State, engaging in extensive stakeholder meetings. As a native son, Damagum commanded impressive gatherings at each session, spanning the state to his local and ward levels. He ignited PDP morale, emphasizing the party’s cohesion and strength both in Yobe and nationwide. He welcomed defectors from the APC and NNPP, boldly declaring the PDP's readiness to dethrone the APC across Nigeria, starting in Yobe.

Simultaneously, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, the National Secretary and 2023 Imo gubernatorial candidate, convened a vibrant stakeholder meeting in Owerri. A royal celebration in his honor ensued, marking his Supreme Court affirmation as National Secretary. Like Damagum, Anyanwu underscored PDP unity and power. Furthermore, similar gatherings erupted across Imo’s senatorial districts, especially his own Owerri district, immediately after the state-level event. Anyanwu, too, vowed PDP's determination to unseat the APC in Imo and beyond.

During Ramadan, Dr. Bukola Saraki hosted an Iftar for Kwara PDP stakeholders, showcasing the party's might and reinforcing its unity. Saraki further asserted the PDP's resolve to reclaim Kwara and the nation from the APC. Just recently, he publicly reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the PDP in his reaction to defection of the Governor of Delta State and rumored defection of other Governors.

These leaders' exemplary conduct sets a standard that other PDP figures should follow. Like Damagum, Anyanwu and Saraki, other Party leaders must begin to connect with the grassroots to ensure no effort is spared in our mission to oust the APC. Our unity must always be emphasized as the party is no longer in crisis. May God bless the aforementioned trio for their efforts and leadership.

Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu has donated plots of lands for the construction of Computer Based Test Center for the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and a digital computer learning center to Amaimo Progressive Forum as part of contributions for the development of the community.

Also, Anyanwu constructed a four bedroom bungalow, and offered monetary assistance for the construction of Amaimo Progressive Forum Secretariat and youths empowerment valued over N100 million respectively in a bid to create a modern opportunity for the people of the communuty.

Addressing members of the forum who paid him an Easter visit on Monday, Senator Anyanwu, also the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party said that the plot of lands donated would house a world class oil meal, police station with the provision of additional modern security gadgets and over 10 computers aimed at providing information gathering and protecting the people.

According to him, aside from the lands, building, computers and security gadgets, he disclosed that over 50 Amaimo indigenes are currently enjoying his full scholarship in various tertiary institutions in the country, with others benefiting from his bursary allowances.

Senator Anyanwu known for genuine philanthropy further promised to rehabilitate the general hospital in Amaimo, Ikeduru LGA built by the federal government but abandoned by successive administrations in the state. 

Speaking during a thank you visit, President of the forum, Hon Nnamdi Iheoma thanked Senator Anyanwu for making the organization proud and assured him of their readiness to reciprocate the gesture anytime their supports were needed.

According to him, an erstwhile PDP candidate for the Ikeduru LGA Chairmanship candidate in the last Imo LGA election, "Senator Anyanwu has demonstrated high level of patriotism showing the level of love he has for the citizens."

In a letter signed by the Secretary of the forum, Chief Uwa Edward Emeka and obtained by newsmen, the forum expressed its deepest appreciation for Senator Anyanwu's incredible generous donations, adding that such assistance was a demonstration of his unwavering commitment to the development of the society.

Chief Uwa further maintained that the lands donated would provide a valuable asset for the organization by enabling them to establish a befitting Secretariat, CBT center for JAMB examination, a digital computer learning center, as well as expand the forum's programmes in line with their vision for development.

Adding his voice, former President General of the Forum, Sir Ugo Ashiegbu, and Nze Chima Ejiogu respectively expressed gratitude to Senator Anyanwu, assuring him that the forum would do everything possible to put good use of the items offered to them.

The duo further called on other leaders in the community and by extension, Ikeduru local government to emulate the generosity of Senator Anyanwu for societal development, adding that the act showes that the National Secretary of PDP believes that charity begins at home.

on the appointment of Acting National Secretary for party, while warning of dire consequences of such action.

Senator Anyanwu, while describing the decision of the Governors as unconditional, pointed out that, the PDP constitution clearly stipulates how a national officer of the party can be elected, appointed, replaced or removed from the office.

Anyanwu, speaking through his spokesperson, Comrade Daboikiabo Z. Warmate, via a statement issued in Abuja, warned the party’s Governors forum against further violations of the Supreme Court judgement and the PDP Constitution.

Comrade Warmate, apparently reacting to Forum’s decision described it as abbreviation and in total violation of PDP Construction.

He said, “Today’s (Monday) governors forum resolution 2 in their communique is an unconstitutional declaration of a state of emergency and a coup de tat against members of our great party the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“It is imperative to reiterate that most distinguished Senator Samuel nnaemeka Anyanwu, at no point resign his position as the National Secretary and so remains the national secretary of PDP inconsonance with the supreme court judgement and the PDP Constitution.

“The PDP constitution clearly stipulates how a national officer of the party can be elected, appointed, replaced or removed in line with sections 45, 47, 49, 57 and 59. Senator Samuel nnaemeka Anyanwu has neither resigned nor the office of the national secretary vacant to warrant an acting national secretary or a call for a replacement. It is the National Convention that is saddled with the sole authority to appoint or remove national officers.

“Therefore , the PDP Governors Forum’s recommendation, directly and indirectly contradicts and violate all relevant sections of the PDP constitution. Right now the PDP governors forum is acting like they are the national working committee (NWC) and have usurped the powers of the NWC, NEC and convention.

“The governors forum lacks the constitution powers to impose on the party its decisions most especially an unpopular one at that. The governors forum should go resolve personal rift with the FCT Minister and not drag the position of the national secretary in to it.

“I urge the governors forum not to allow their ego and proxy war to exacerbate the already existing tension in the party that is a product of their misguided actions.

“You cannot have a substitutive national secretary in the person of senator Samuel Anyanwu and appoint the deputy national secretary as an acting national secretary, it’s nonsensical. Although based on our party’s constitution, all they have said are nothing more than a suggestion. Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu remains the authentic national secretary till December 2025.

“I condemn and reject in totality the resolution 2 of the communique of the PDP governors forum today. The governor Bala Muhammad led PDP Governors Forum should be held responsible if, our great party fails to meet the expectations of Nigerians.

“The governors are making our great party a laughing stock, for example you saw the laughable narrative being pushed in some quarters that the PDP Governors Forum has affirm Hon. Sunday Udeh-Okoye as national secretary who’s not even a party to the suite filed from the Enugu high court, appeal court Enugu division and supreme court judgements.

“I therefore, urge the PDP governors forum to immediately reverse their draconian resolution 2 because it runs contrary to the Supreme Court judgement, the PDP constitution and it’s unpopular and the consequences will be severe if not withdrawn.”

The recent communiqué from the Governors' Forum, recommending the Deputy National Secretary to act as the National Secretary, has triggered massive and negative reactions among party faithful. Many believe that the Supreme Court judgment had already put to rest all issues surrounding the position of the National Secretary.

So, we must ask: Who are the PDP Governors really working for?

Is it the party—or the opposition?

From all indications, their actions and inactions seem to be threatening the peace and stability that currently exists within the party. I strongly urge them to redirect their energy toward restoring peace, reconciliation, and progress in the PDP.

Yes, I understand that pride and ego may have influenced these recommendations. But let us remember:

 We, the Concerned Nigerian Youth, rise today with one voice to vehemently oppose the PDP Governors Forum’s audacious recommendation to replace Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This recommendation, announced on April 14, 2025, is not only a direct affront to justice but also a shameless attempt to undermine the rule of law and the will of the party’s grassroots supporters.

Let it be clear: The Supreme Court of Nigeria has already declared Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the authentic National Secretary of the PDP. This ruling is final, binding, and a testament to his legitimacy as a leader within the party. Yet, despite this unequivocal judicial affirmation, the PDP Governors Forum has chosen to push for his replacement with a temporary appointee. This move, as reported by Sahara Reporters and other credible sources, is nothing short of political recklessness and an insult to the judiciary and the Nigerian people.

Senator Anyanwu has proven himself a loyal and resilient leader, steering the party through turbulent times with unwavering dedication. His tenure as National Secretary is a beacon of hope for millions of PDP supporters, especially the youth, who see in him a commitment to fairness and party unity. For the Governors Forum to attempt to unseat him now after the Supreme Court has spoken is a brazen display of impunity that threatens the very soul of the PDP.

We ask the Governors Forum: On what grounds do you defy the Supreme Court? Why do you seek to destabilize the party with actions that contradict the law and alienate its base? This is not leadership; it is a power grab dressed up as a recommendation. The PDP cannot afford to lose its credibility or its connection with the people over the ambitions of a few.

Governors Forum, Board of Trustees, and National Working Committe, we deliver this message: Respect the Supreme Court’s ruling. Honor Senator Anyanwu’s rightful position as National Secretary. Cease this unnecessary crisis and focus on rebuilding the party ahead of future challenges. To our fellow Nigerians, we urge you to stand with us in condemning this overreach. The PDP must remain a party of the people, not a playground for the powerful.

The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) held its 4th meeting in 2025 in Ibadan, issuing resolutions that directly encroach upon the constitutional powers of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and National Executive Committee (NEC). While some decisions appear strategic, others violate the PDP Constitution, undermine internal democracy, and threaten the party’s cohesion ahead of the 2027 elections.

This summary critically examines the unconstitutional actions of the Governors’ Forum, their implications for party supremacy, and the urgent need for the NWC—led by Acting Chairman Amb. Umar Damagum—to reclaim its authority.

Key Issues & Constitutional Violations. Usurpation of NWC/NEC Powers. The PDP Constitution (2017) explicitly assigns critical functions to the NWC and NEC, including: Appointing acting officers (e.g., National Secretary) – Article 47(6). Constituting committees (Zoning, Convention) – Article 29(2)(b). Convening NEC meetings & setting convention dates – Articles 31 & 33.

The Governors’ Forum unilaterally recommended the Deputy National Secretary to act without NWC/NEC approval.They pre-selected members for the Zoning & Convention Committees, a role reserved for the NWC proposing and NEC ratifying. They fixed the NEC meeting (May 27) and Convention dates (August 28-30)—powers belonging to NEC, not Governors.

This undermines party hierarchy, making the NWC a rubber-stamp body rather than an independent administrative organ. Unconstitutional Meddling in Party Affairs The Forum’s actions constitute interference because The Governors’ Forum is not a recognized organ in the PDP Constitution—its role is advisory, not binding.

No constitutional provision allows Governors to impose committee structures or override NWC/NEC decisions. The NWC is the administrative engine of the party, yet the Governors are dictating terms, weakening institutional governance.

If unchecked, this sets a dangerous precedent where elected officials (Governors) hijack party structures, sidelining democratic processes Deliberate Weakening of the Party.

The Forum’s moves suggest a long-term strategy to Centralize power under Governors, reducing the NWC’s influence. Undermine Acting Chairman Damagum, making him subservient to Governors’ interests. Create factional loyalty, where party decisions flow from Governors rather than constitutional organs. This could lead to internal rebellion (e.g., BoT, National Assembly Caucus rejecting decisions), further fragmenting the PDP.

The Forum’s rejection of the Supreme Court’s judgment (on the National Secretary) is hypocritical. They claim to oppose "rape of democracy" (State of Emergency in Rivers) yet disregard the Supreme Court’s authority on party matters. Instead of complying with the Court’s decision, they recommended an acting secretary, effectively circumventing the ruling. This erodes public trust in the PDP’s commitment to rule of law and judicial independence.

The PDP Constitution does not recognize the Governors’ Forum as a decision-making body. Its resolutions are non-binding unless adopted by the NWC/NEC. The NWC must publicly clarify that Governors’ decisions are mere suggestions, not directives.

The Deputy National Secretary cannot act without NWC nomination and NEC ratification (Article 47(6). The Governors’ declaration is unconstitutional and null/void. If enforced, this could lead to legal battles, further destabilizing the party.

As long as Samuel Anyanwu is alive, competent, and has not formally resigned or been constitutionally removed, no individual or group has the authority to replace him. His position remains valid under the law and the governing documents of PDP. Any attempt to install another person as National Secretary is null, void, and of no effect.

There is no vacancy in the office of the National Secretary, and any purported appointment or election of a replacement is illegal and unacceptable.

A competent court of jurisdiction, the Federal High Court in Abuja, has issued a restraining order barring any individual or group from parading themselves or acting in the capacity of National Secretary without the express approval of Samuel Anyanwu. The position of National Secretary is not vacant, and Samuel Anyanwu remains the only authorized occupant of the office.

We urge all members, stakeholders, and the public to disregard any false claims regarding the position of the National Secretary. Samuel Ayanwu is, and remains, the legitimate National Secretary.

The Acting National Chairman risks complicity if he does not Publicly reject the Governors’ unconstitutional overreach. Convene an emergency NWC/NEC meeting to reassert party supremacy. Nullify all illegal appointments (acting secretary, pre-selected committees). Sanction Governors attempting to undermine the party’s constitution.

If Damagum remains silent, he enables a creeping dictatorship, setting a disastrous precedent for future NWC leaders.

The Governors’ Forum’s overreach is a direct attack on the PDP’s constitutional order. If the NWC, led by Damagum, fails to act, the party risks Total erosion of internal democracy, Factionalization ahead of 2027, Loss of credibility as a democratic alternative to APC.

The time to reclaim party supremacy is NOW. The NWC must rise to the occasion or risk historical blame for the PDP’s decline.

The ongoing tension between some PDP governors and the party’s National Working Committee particularly the authentic National Secretary Sen. Samuel Anyanwu stems from a mix of personal loyalties and party politics. Sen. Samuel Anyanwu’s reinstatement by the Supreme Court in March 2025 confirmed his position as the authentic national Secretary of the party, yet some governors, reportedly upset over his ties or friendship with the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, have pushed for his ouster as against the party’s constitution. 

They have even suggested an acting secretary, which the youths of the party on seeing such draconian recommendation have vehemently kicked against as overstepping their authority under the PDP constitution.

As party faithfuls, we must all understand that the Governors Forum is not a constitutionally recognized arm of the party but they serve as pressure group within the party. 

Forcing Anyanwu out risks deepening the PDP’s internal crisis. The party is already struggling-look at Anambra, where no one bought governorship forms for 2025 Guber Election due to the chaos until the very last minute. Governors like Bala Mohammed and others have a point about needing unity, but targeting Anyanwu seems more like a proxy war of witch hunt targeted at his person rather than a principled stand. Sen. Anyanwu has been clear about his unshaken commitment to the PDP as above all sentiments. Being friends with the FCT minister is not a crime plus he has got a legal mandate as a constitutionally elected National Secretary of the party whose tenure only elapses in December of 2025.

On the flip side, governors have ceremonial grip about the party’s direction. The PDP has been bleeding relevance since 2023, and the party is desperate to avoid a repeat in 2027. Some see Anyanwu as a symbol of the old guard tied to Wike but forgetting that he is a man of his own, strong willed and belong to a class of elite and well respected politicians in the country. 

Here is the thing; kicking out a Supreme court-backed National Secretary won’t fix the rot created by the same interest driven governors. It will only spark more lawsuits and defections, handing rivals like the APC an easy win in any elections going forward.

The smart play is de-escalation. Governors should focus on real reforms which include legitimate congresses, fundraising, grassroots mobilization and not this vendetta against the personality of Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, a man who has always fought for the progress of the PDP.

What should be well echoed in the ears of all Nigerians as well as PDP supporters at a time like this is that Sen. Samuel Anyanwu is not the problem of the PDP.

The PDP’s bigger enemy is its own disarray and selfish interest governors who have literally sold out the 2027 presidential election to Tinubu and the APC yet they accuse someone else of sabotage.

As stated by a political commentator on his X handle @HonShield, “Chatting with a former PDP Governor who is currently holding a revered position in the Party, he told me, "Shield, 7 of our Governors are with Tinubu".

Shouldn’t the people demand accountability from these set of governors rather than creating an infighting within the PDP where there is none?
